Call it fun, call it cornball, call it nostalgic but never call it dull. "Who But W.B. Mason" is the circus coming to town, from the rolling wave in its unique logotype to the laughter in its storytelling. Happily, it is the most successful and famous brand I ever created. And a continuing source of pride and fun as, over the years, I've been privileged to write and produce most of W.B.'s iconic 90-plus TV commercials. Originally crafted in 1986, the W.B. brand remains surprisingly fresh and vibrant as the company raises it up across the country
W.B Mason - Truck
Our most effective billboard ever! The W.B. Mason truck was like the circus coming to town, bringing out the little child in each of us. Little known fact (LKF): the entire Mason branding campaign was inspired by classic circus poster artwork.
W.B Mason - Tribute
In October of 2012, at the annual W.B. Mason sales meeting, I was honored for my 26 years of creative contributions in a surprise tribute. The speakers are Leo Meehan, Mason CEO and President, and John Greene, Mason Vice President, both partners in the privately-held company. Lest I forget to state the obvious, the last speaker is me.
W.B Mason - Billboard 1
"When You Gotta Hafta Geddit Today!" How better to convey we were now offering "same-day delivery" in the Boston area?
W.B Mason - Billboard 2
Finally, our heroic savings could free everyone held captive by the national office supply chains.
W.B Mason - Billboard 3
Little Known Fact (LKF): this billboard was taken down early because travelers on Boston's Route 3 thought our G.I. Joe W.B. was holding a bazooka instead of a marker.
W.B Mason - Fenway
And then W.B. Mason joined the major leagues! Here you see our sign in Fenway Park, the first of six that sprung up in outfields up and down the East Coast. Little Known Fact (LKF) our Mason sign fit in so well with Boston Red Sox graphics because we designed our logo to look like circus type, which has that same 1890's look as baseball team logos.
W.B Mason Bullfighter- Advertising
A unique step onto the advertising stage, these 4-color posters were actually converted and reduced to half-page black & white newspaper ads. Little Known Fact (LKF): the sales emphasis was on office furniture in those days. Office supplies was merely a sideline.

W.B Mason Boston Invasion- Television
After 90-plus TV commercials, I'm proud to say, "This is some of my best work!" Mostly fun, often funny, my W.B. Mason TV commercials were primarily meant to create affection for Mason out in the marketplace. If they also sold office supplies, so much the better. Little Known Fact (LKF): we started out doing black & white commercials because our first commercial, "The Boston Invasion" was a parody of Hollywood war movies of the 1940's.
